Top Five Invincibilities

Most video games are power fantasies in one way or another, but within those empowering thrills is an even greater power fantasy: being invincible. Here are our favorite versions of not having to think about our health or taking damage, even if only for a few blissful seconds.

The Super Star from the Mario franchise is the defining invincibility power-up. As young players, we were overjoyed that we could run through Goombas and Koopas with reckless abandon, and as adults, well… it’s still one of the best feelings you can have in a video game.
