Red All Over
Insomniac continues to trickle out deeper looks at Wolverine, and each showing reaffirms the game as a technical showpiece for the PS5, an impressive exhibition of gameplay and combat, and a welcoming stage for new characters that make the storytelling a more compelling draw. That was certainly the case with Sony’s recent State of Play, where we saw some frenetic combat and the first appearance of one of Logan’s most important relationships through the trailer’s debut of the fiery-haired Jean Grey.
Insomniac’s prior work on Spider-Man gave us plenty of fast-moving melee combat, but Peter Parker certainly didn’t have the flair for violence that we get from Wolverine. Logan moves around the battlefield like a sharpened wrecking ball, stabbing through skulls, impaling Reavers against forklifts, and getting thoroughly coated in blood at every turn. That level of gore seems baked into the game and its character, but Insomniac has said that accessibility options should let players tune it down.
