Mountaineering games have ascended (pun intended) in popularity over the past couple of years. Jusant, Cairn, Peak, and others have successfully translated the sport in their own unique ways, but Ascenders: Beyond the Peak may be the most radical reinvention yet. It stirs in RPG-style party building and turn-based gameplay, roguelike progression, and Lovecraftian horror to create an experience that makes you question your sanity as much as your footing.

Ascenders: Beyond the Peak gives players control of a party of climbers working for the Ascenders Agency who must climb fictional mountains to find ancient treasures at the behest of a wealthy benefactor. Soon, however, it becomes clear that the ancient civilizations that resided on these peaks hide menacing secrets. A rope with realistic physics tethers the climbers together. Climbers have positive and negative traits and are assigned one of nine classes with distinct abilities. A Highlander, for example, can shove enemies off the cliff, Sappers use explosives to reshape terrain, and Scouts can reposition the party using a grappling hook.
