Not Buying the Hype?
Have you ever tried to get into a game just because it received GOTY? So, I bought Baldur’s Gate 3 and I’m having the toughest time getting into it. Is it not for everybody? Or maybe it’s not meant for us 1900s children. – Anthony via Facebook
That might be a bit of a misguided assumption to make about this particular game, since Baldur’s Gate 3 is nothing if not a major throwback to the CRPGs of the ’90s, but your overarching question is a good one! It’s important to remember that no game will appeal to everyone, regardless of how great you hear it is. For instance, we know people who couldn’t get into Breath of the Wild, while there are tons of folks who aren’t Soulslike fans, even when a game is as universally acclaimed as Elden Ring. With regards to Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s pretty widely accepted that it’s an incredibly ambitious RPG that accomplishes most of what it sets out to do in ways that have rarely been as fully realized at this level of quality. That said, it’s also a very specific type of game – more so than most other Game of the Year-level titles – which can make it unwieldy for those not used to CRPGs.
