Have You Seen These Games?
Video games are not easy to make. They take a lot of time and effort (not to mention money) to put together under the best circumstances, and some spend a longer time baking in the oven, so to speak, before they’re ready for primetime. Unfortunately, a prolonged development cycle can often result in little to no updates on a project’s status, prompting fans to ask, “What’s going on?” about a highly anticipated game. Because such games can be easy to forget, we compiled several of the most exciting and intriguing titles that have been floating in the ether for a while to remind you why they’re worth watching while also reaching out to their creators for updates.
Beyond Good & Evil 2
Almost drinking age
Of all the games on this list, Beyond Good & Evil 2 holds the record for being in development the longest. It was announced in 2008 before finally receiving a proper trailer nearly a decade later. Another trailer came the following year, showcasing a large cast of space-faring characters and highlighting Pey’j and presumed protagonist Jade (who might be a villain now?) from the original game. That was 2018, however, and the only official news since then have been details about the game’s directors.
Creator Michel Ancel left Ubisoft in 2020, and Emile Morel took over directing duties. Morel sadly passed away in 2023, and now, former Ubisoft VP of editorial, Fawzi Mesmar, leads the project. Earlier this year, Ubisoft publicly cancelled several projects, but Beyond Good and Evil 2 survived. When reached for a development update, Ubisoft offered a statement reading, “Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains a priority for us in the context of our strategy centered around Open World Adventures. We have nothing further to share at this time.” We have almost hit the 20-year mark on the sequel being in development, but it appears to be moving along behind the scenes. – Kyle Hilliard
