The Next Chapter Of Overwatch

Overwatch 2 is officially dead, but not in the way you think. The sequel suffered from complicated public perception in the years following its messy 2022 launch and the cancellation of a long-promised story-focused mode. However, rather than closing the curtain on a once-prolific hero shooter, Blizzard is doubling down on its future by rewinding the clock, abandoning sequel structures, and delivering an abundance of new heroes in 2026. Overwatch, in name and form, is back.

“Overwatch is a pillar for Blizzard, which we believe is a timeless game. It’s not limited to chronology. It’s certainly not limited to number structures,” Blizzard president Johanna Faries says to a theater full of international press at the company’s headquarters.
